The high aspect front wing with the perfect blend of carving, lift and control !

Introduction

Curve H is, before anything, the same magical rail to rail we know of the regular Curve front wings, but now with an impressive glide and a comfortable lift that make it an accessible high performance wing

They are the ideal front wings to enter the world of high aspect ratios, for winging or surf/SUP foiling. You take off super early. The glide is wonderful in a wide range of speeds. Those are very lifty front wings thanks to a generous profile at the center. A game changer in surf foiling, the pumping is insane without being technical : it never stalls thanks to this magical profile.

In its DNA is the outline that made the Curve front wing a best-seller. With a very round leading edge to throw the tips back, the curves are clean from low to the highest speed.

The Curve H is not a front wing for hitting a quick snap : it’s a carver. It has grip and can hold the curves. You feel a sort of constant drive whatever the trajectories, the opposite of a sketchy behavior, and the best reason to push harder into your turns. Add to that the omega curvature that keeps the tips away from the water to avoid any breaching and you get the perfect performance carving front wing to carve harder and harder!

You can either pick a smaller surface than you normally would and enjoy an even crazier rail-to-rail, pick the sizing you’re familiar with to boost your glide and carve to infinity or go for the largest sizes to enjoy super early take-offs while keeping an amazing glide!

On the wave, you carve hard without losing control thanks to the moderate high aspect that gracefully combines glide and maneuverability. The behavior is always predictable; it naturally rolls from one turn to the other. This moderation makes it a really versatile front wing, perfect for the foiler that wants to discover higher aspect front wings.

The very large sizes from 3XL-H to 6XL-H are ideal wings for getting into ultra light wind. Ultra lifty at low speed, it is also clearly the simplest front wing for doing your first dockstart feats or for taking off on the flat with a SUP foiling board! The 6XL-H is simply stunning and makes this discipline accessible to everyone (provided you have a minimum of technique and a suitable board like a Cruzader).

Clearly surf oriented, the right balance of glide, maneuverability and glide of the Curve H front wings make it the ultimate versatile performer. You can just as well surf a speedy outer swell or carve like a maniac in a wave and pump forever in surf foiling, it’s really mind-boggling.

GONG | Foil Front Wing Curve H
Shape
Ratio

With its moderate high aspect ratio, an outline that curves backwards and a generous profile at the center that quickly fades away towards the tips, this front wing is easy, maneuverable, fast and versatile. It takes off early with a truly comfortable lift and then rolls from one curve to the other effortlessly, it’s super intuitive !

Curve H front wings have a moderate high aspect ratio: the perfect balance between glide, lift and rail-to-rail. This kind of ratio preserves an excellent maneuverability compared to front wings with a ratio closer to 10. But it still creates a much smaller drag compared to a smaller ratio front wing that would be close to 5. It’s a shape with a massive range and really versatile!

On the larger sizes, the aspect ratio is increased to 11.1 to make them real pumping machines, you can fly for long minutes on your leg strength without having to dig deep in your cardio! Its balance of speed and lift, glide and maneuverability, makes it truly shine for a performance oriented carving use with an impressive rail to rail and a smoooth glide in the waves.

Outline

The outline of the Curve H is very round. The leading and trailing edge are curved back to position the tips behind the lifting force. This geometry makes the rail to rail ultra intuitive, the front wing gets into curves easily and feels just right.

This outline re-centers the surface and allows the tips to be thinner for more maneuverability. The front wing naturally rolls around this centered surface to offer a rail-to-rail that works wonders when surfing. The tips plunge effortlessly for a delicate and/or radical ride. The feeling is really magical!

Thickness of the profile

Curve H front wings have a generous volume, especially in the second third of the extrado, that gives it tons of lift at slow speed and increases the glide. You can use smaller sizes to gain even more maneuverability, or you can aim for a much easier pumping thanks to the lift and to the fact that the front wing simply will not collapse under you : It is really permissive.

The volume is centered enough to progressively fade away at the tips with the decreasing outline. The lift ends up being very centered: It creates a natural pivot point, making you feel much more in control during turns. You go from one rail to the other effortlessly, similar to a smooth and maneuverable round tail board. The thin tips increase the capacity for turns because the outer tip will not get capped speed-wise during these turns. Yet another good point for the Curve H.

The high aspect ratio offers tons of glide and the way the volume is distributed gives the Curve H a very low stalling speed. The enjoyable speed range is insane. And you can really feel it in the waves, in which you’ll be constantly jumping from strong accelerations when riding down a wave to barely any speed when exiting a wave or maneuver.

Type of profile

The profile of the new Curve H is generous, proportional to its chord. It is a very lifty profile and allows for very low-speed flying while bringing a lot of leeway when pumping or during maneuvers, it never stalls!

The back third of the extrado is the key factor of this new profile. With more volume there, the front wing glides further for the same effort. You get a little less speed but much more distance between two pumps and much more lift at lower speeds. Another key factor: this front wing recovers incredibly well from a stall. If you fly too high, it will give out and recover all by itself without you realizing what exactly just happened. Same thing when landing jumps, it will get back to flying instantly.

The max width has been pushed back to increase max speed, but also to get a smoother behavior (much less on/off).

When surf foiling, you won’t be overwhelmed at take-off.

When wing foiling, it gently takes off and it gets back to flying smoothly after a jump. When wing foiling or SUP foiling, this profile makes it a front wing that takes off very early. The pumping is easy: no need to waste all your energy ; awesome for lighter winds or for those who ride a 4m when everyone else has a 5m ! When the wind picks up it makes it possible to get the smaller front wing size to get a more compact, dynamic and skaty feel, all while remaining comfortable.

When surf foiling, this profile makes it possible to maintain flight even at very low speed, the pumping is amazing without being too technical; The pumps are properly spaced in-between thanks to the magical glide. You feel like you can take your time between two pumps. Pumping is no longer the heart attack-inducing rush it used to be.
It’s smoother and you get further. You can pump through the white-wash more easily and even if you make a few mistakes here and there you can still maintain flight.

Camber

Curve H front wings have a moderate Omega camber with, at the center, a long, relatively steady negative curvature that gives it grip. The grip in the turns inspires confidence and you know you won’t slip during a hard carve even if you push really hard. And so you do, you push really really hard.

This geometry also pushes the tips further away from the water surface, so that you can push even harder in your turns.

On the tips, we are almost flat in order to increase maneuverability by releasing pressure. It is also a shape that avoids dragging the tips at the bottom.

Front Wing Carbon HM Technology

High Module Carbon offers unparalleled rigidity, representing the pinnacle of performance in our most advanced wings and masts, which face the most demanding structural constraints.

By combining High Module with Intermediate Module, we offer the best performance at the best price.

The products have no flex, the fibers are oriented along multiple axes to lock in bending and torsion, ensuring maximum responsiveness.

Thanks to pre-impregnated fibers, we can guarantee optimal resin usage, providing perfect cohesion at the lightest possible weight.

Each layer of carbon is carefully hand-assembled around a high-density hydrophobic foam core, in a steel mold. A central stiffener is integrated to increase rigidity without compromising on lightness.

The mold is then subjected to high pressure and heated to 150°C to solidify the carbon. The foam core, seeking to expand under the heat, ensures even compression between the carbon layers, ensuring a strong and durable structure.

Durability and repairability are at the heart of our development philosophy. Our foils are tested and proven by dozens of team riders, hundreds of employees, and thousands of customers worldwide. Even in case of damage, our products can be repaired multiple times, ensuring exceptional longevity.

Buying guide

For whom?

You’re at the point where you’re flying all the time in wing foiling, you nail all your jibes and free fly on waves, in short you know how to wing foil and want to go next level? You’d like to go for a higher aspect ratio to gain in glide and average speed, but without switching to a pro-only front wing?
Then the Curve H is made for you as it is the easiest access to high aspect front wings! Its very predictable behavior, its natural rail to rail and its high lift make it very accessible for a front wing with such a high potential of performance.
In surf foiling / SUP foiling you have a good level and you are looking for glide without sacrificing low speed tolerance and maneuverability: the Curve H is the front wing that will allow you to tick all these boxes.

What For?

Carve hard with speed while keeping a predictable front wing with lift for low speed moments and great pumping.

Its smooth glide and its top speed of a high aspect wing will completely transform your sessions by taking you to another level of foiling! It’s obvious in the waves ?

In surfing, it accepts all curve radius and all speeds. It will offer maximum maneuverability for all surfing rhythms. It is a front wing for carving, with a strong hold. It’s not a front wing for hitting a quick snap. It likes to hold curves and finish them with elegance.

In detail for each practice:

  • In surf foiling, you must have a confirmed level because it is not a beginner’s wing. It is the ideal front wing for those who want to glide effortlessly, pump and reconnect non-stop without giving up turns and linking curves.
  • In downwinds you fly easily and endlessly without the need for huge bumps. The front wing glides and accelerates very easily. You can take advantage of all bumps with its maneuverability.
  • In wing foiling, the small sizes are fantastic for taking off in no wind. You can fly with almost 200cm² less than your usual front wing. We have an incredible rail to rail that allows you to surf all types of waves. On the other side of the spectrum, paired with a Cruzader, you will pulverize your low range. It’s just amazing how early it flies. And the speed remains top-ranked.

Which shape of the Curve to go for? Curve or Curve H?

The Curve and Curve H program remains common, an accessible glide with great maneuverability at all speeds. Choosing between Curve and Curve H does not change your practice, but refines it.

These two ranges have been designed to complement each other perfectly. The surface increases every 100cm². The difference in thickness is 1mm from one size to another. You can thus build a quiver composed only of Curve or Curve H, or build a quiver mixing these two front wings according to your practice.

If we had to compare the Curve and Curve H ranges to a surfboard, it would correspond to a mid length. With all the ease, versatility, glide, and above all the performance that we know from them thanks to an efficient shape.

A Curve would compare to a 6’5 mid length with a twin fin set-up as it’s easy, versatile, ultra maneuverable, fun in many conditions and combining speed and acceleration. A Curve H would rather compare to a 7′ mid length on a single fin set-up because it’s very easy, versatile and offers unbridled speed. The Curve H is easy to access but at the same time great for its piloting finesse.

Regarding their abilities in carves, the Curve has the edge for tight turns, the Curve H for its masterful glide.

The Curve will have greater stability/grip thanks to a more important dihedral; the Curve H will be a little more unbridled.

The aspect ratio of the Curve H is more important, but without being in the extreme ranges that can go up to 10 which are much less manageable. We enjoy the exceptional glide of high aspect wings, while maintaining excellent maneuverability.

Curve H tips are thinner and have less surface area. This keeps excellent maneuverability for wings of this size. The camber is less important, in order to maintain an excellent rail to rail despite the high ratio.

Pumping on the Curve H is a little more technical, but will be more efficient thanks to its higher ratio and shorter chord length. Perfect for slightly more experienced levels. In wing foiling, the Curve H will require a little more speed on takeoff than the Curve, but it is still very accessible.

You can easily build a quiver of 2 or 3 wings within this range, and by mixing Curves and Curves H according to your use.

Some examples to choose between Curve and Curve H :

  • I come from a beginner front wing and I want to favor ease of take-off in wing foiling, especially in the light wind conditions, I choose the Curve.
  • My priority is to carve, whether in wing foiling or surf foiling, I take the Curve.
  • I already have an advanced level in surf foiling, and my priority is pumping to connect as much as possible, I choose the Curve H.
  • I have an intermediate level in wing foiling, and I still work on my jibes, I choose the Curve.
  • I’m into surf foiling and also dock starting on flat days, I choose the Curve H.
  • I have a good level in wing foiling and my priority is downwind, I choose the Curve H.
  • Bigger riders will probably prefer the Curve with their moderate wingspan.
  • I have a good level in wing foiling and I have a medium/large size, I can make the Curve MH my everyday wing.

What size ?

The Curve wings can fit riders of all sizes.

The XS-H has a wingspan of 68 cm, 500 cm2, a thickness of 1.3 cm for a volume of 0.66L.

  • In surf foiling, unless you’re very light, this size is mainly intended for towed surf foiling in powerful waves.
  • In wing foiling, it is suitable for light riders of a very good technical level in strong winds.
  • In kite foiling, this size is perfect for riders looking for speed while maintaining excellent control on all points of sail and in curves.

The S-H has a 77 cm wingspan, 700 cm², 1,5 cm thickness for a volume of 0,57L.

  • In surf foiling, it is a small wing that will suit light riders with a very good technical level. It can also be used in tow-in in medium waves.
  • In wing foiling, it will be suitable for light riders with a very good technical level or in strong winds.
  • In kite foiling, it is a reference wing, it takes off easily, excels in carving, while having an excellent top speed. It will be perfect for a confirmed kite foiler who is looking for a wing to go out in all weathers.

The M-H has a 86 cm wingspan, 900 cm², 1,7 cm thickness for a volume of 0,8 L.

  • In surf foiling, it is a wing that will be perfect for light riders, or for larger riders of good level in powerful waves.
  • In wing foiling, it is a relatively small wing, but which will suit light riders with a good level, or larger riders with a good level who will take it out in strong wind and wave conditions.
  • In kite foiling: to forget, it’s too big.

The L-H has a 95 cm wingspan, 1100 cm², 1,8 cm thickness for a volume of 1L.

  • In surf foiling, it will be a central wing in the quiver of a good surf foiler.
  • In wing foiling, the light ones with a good level will make it their light wind wing. It is also a key wing for downwinders.
  • In kite foiling: to forget, it’s too big.

The XL-H has a 105 cm wingspan, 1300 cm², 1,9 cm thickness for a volume of 1,4 L.

  • In surf foiling, it will be a perfect wing for small surf conditions for a good surf foiler, and a central wing for large riders of a good level.
  • In wing foiling, the big guys will make it their front wing for downwinders.
  • In kite foiling: to forget, it’s too big.

The XXL-H has a 115 cm wingspan, 1550 cm², 2,2 cm thickness for a volume of 1,6 L.

  • In surf foiling, it is a very large wing which will go perfectly with big riders, it is a perfect wing to excel in dock starting too.
  • In wing foiling, it is a very good light wind wing that will go perfectly with big riders, ideal for downwinders in light wind conditions.
  • In kite foiling: to forget, it’s too big.

The 3XL-H has a wingspan of 125 cm, 1850 cm2, 2.4 cm thick for a volume of 2.43 L.

  • In surf foiling, it starts to be very big, so it’s reserved for the heavier ones who want a front wing with ultra-efficient pumping.
  • In SUP foiling, it is a great front wing for relaxed downwinders on a Cruzader, or for surfing super tiny waves.
  • In wing foiling, it is a wing for very light winds for an average sized foiler.

The 4XL-H has a wingspan of 145 cm, 2150 cm2, 2.4 cm thick for a volume of 2.86 L.

  • In surf foiling, it is reserved for sessions that are all about pumping, because its wingspan is quite technical to manage when surfing down the line on a wave.
  • In SUP foiling, it is a great front wing for relaxed downwinders on a Cruzader, or for surfing super tiny waves.
  • In wing foiling, it is a benchmark front wing for ultra light wind conditions, an ideal combo with a Cruzader XL or a HIPE Cruzader to increase the number of sessions tenfold. We keep an impressive maneuverability for this wingspan.

The 5XL-H has a wingspan of 165 cm, 2450 cm2, 2.4 cm thick for a volume of 3.25 L.

  • In surf foiling, it’s too big. To be reserved for pumping sessions because it lifts at very low speed, and it is almost difficult to stall!
  • In SUP foiling, it is a size that can work in super small waves and allow endless connections for the heavier ones, and great for flat starts for medium sized foilers.
  • In wing foiling, it is the front wing for sessions where the wind is non-existent in the lulls. We take off with nothing and we can keep flying for several minutes just on your leg strength.

The 6XL-H has a wingspan of 185 cm, 3100 cm2, 2.7 cm thick for a volume of 4.58 L.

  • In surf foiling, it is reserved for dock starts: even the heaviest riders can cover long distances without difficulty in lift!
  • In SUP foiling, there is no longer any need for waves, it makes paddling take-off incredibly simple, even for the heaviest foilers.
  • In wing foiling, it is the wing that will take off the most easily, but you need to be a big foiler to really need it.

General: a bigger front wing will be used in low ranges, in soft conditions. And conversely a smaller front wing in stronger conditions. What you need to remember is that the choice of your wing depends on your size, which requires lift, and your average speed, which generates lift.

 Understand our foil range

Which stab?

We recommend using Fluid H stabs when flying a Curve H front wings. Use stabs that have some surface area because the H stabilizers remain thin.
If you have a low level, we recommend the Curve stabs which will soften the trajectories with a more guided drive in drift but very manageable for curves.

For larger sizes (3XL-H to 6XL-H), we also recommend using the Sirus Stab, which boosts efficiency in low-power disciplines (small waves, light wind, etc.). If you’re looking for pumping efficiency, prefer it in moderate sizes (40 to 50) for their reactivity in pitch. When looking for speed, prefer it in large sizes (50 to 63) to more easily keep the foil towards the surface after acceleration

This table allows you to easily identify which stab for which front wing, or which stab for a quiver of several Curve H front wings.

Quiver partners ?

With a Curve H, you really have to consider switching to an HM carbon mast. The gain in stiffness and dynamism is incredible.

On the large sizes (3XL to 6XL), it is essential to exploit their potential, the additional stiffness of the mast makes it possible to absorb the errors of support. The HM72 Mast perfectly meets this need for rigidity.
The stress on the fuselage when pumping is not as extreme as the one of landing a jump in wing foiling for example, but it generates material fatigue with the constant repetition of the effort over long periods. For this, we strongly recommend using our Titanium Pro fuselage for your pumping sessions. The heavier you are and the larger your front wing, the more essential it is.

In surf foiling, a performance board is essential: Lethal or Matata.

Ditto in wing foiling, it is the front wing that will go with a Pro board. In SUP foiling and light wind winging, the potential of these wings will be boosted with a board like the Cruzader. For beachstart/dockstart sessions, a board with a low volume will be perfect.

And don’t forget the Cruzader for an use in SUP foiling or lightwind winging.

Positioning of the foil ?

For the GONG foils, place the top plate at the rear third of the US rails for surf, SUP and kite. Place it in the middle of the US rails when using it with a wing foil.

The more you move it forward, the more it makes the board pitch up. The further you move it backwards, the more the nose of the board dives.

Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend to forget to use the back foot, especially when we have a kite foil background. However, moving the foil back a little forces you to put more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.

Equipments

Screws not included, your needs are :

Our front wing – fuselage connection works with three screws for the majority of sizes:

For the most extreme sizes (3XL to 6XL) the fuselage connection is reinforced to increase the durability of your front wing. The screws are thus a few millimeters longer:

Our front wings are delivered in quality, durable and aesthetic packaging that can be used for storage at home and even in the car, to get to the spot without damaging them.

If the cardboard takes up too much space, you can also equip yourself with a GONG FOIL COVER FOR HIGH ASPECT FRONT WING in high quality material. They are great for travel, or when you want to take a lot of gear to the spot!

The instructions may also be downloaded by clicking on the following link or from the GONG-GALAXY.COM website. The instructions form an integral part of the scope of this contract, for which it constitutes an exhibit in and of itself. You acknowledge that you have carefully examined it.

Special statement regarding foils products

The practice of foils, in every medium, presents a special hazard. Notwithstanding the contents of the instructions for use of each product, it is imperative that a few simple rules be observed:

  • Wear a safety vest and a helmet. Foils contain areas of impact that are indispensable for their proper operation, but which present a real danger in the event of a shock. You are most exposed to this risk as a practitioner on the device. You must therefore protect yourself, consequently, using adequate equipment that meets standards. And you must protect yourself by never placing yourself in an at-risk situation. Your behaviour determines the risk you take.
  • Except for kite surf boards, equip your board, at all times, with a leash that is at least equal to the length of the board, as well as foot straps. These elements make it possible not to completely release the board in the direction of other users. Never move in a distance that is less than the length of your leash plus that of the board plus your centreboard should you fall amongst other practitioners. You must never bring a third party into this diameter which forms the area in which your activity presents risk.
  • Only practice in spots that are conducive for the activity (secure water entry, lack of shore break, regular bottom, orientation adapted the wind direction, etc.) and not frequented by practitioners of other nautical sports. A foil’s speeds require that the solo practitioner or one amongst multiple foil practitioners move in an environment where each person anticipates and has awareness of the others’ trajectories.
  • Scrupulously follow the rules of priority, especially since inertia and manoeuvrability are different from traditional media, above all for beginners. Courtesy and the sense of responsibility must be part of your practice so as not to create deviant behaviour that might lead to an accident.
  • Pay attention to the other practitioners, and generally speaking, to all users of the water body, even if they do not have priority in your area of movement (they may, among other things, underestimate your speed and your danger zone). Never practice around children or people who are unfamiliar with the sport, as their reactions might be completely unpredictable. You would be fully liable. GONG SUP will do everything in its power to alert you to the risks and explain to you the practical framework that we recommend. You cannot ignore these instructions as this would endanger you and everyone else, and jeopardize the GONG SUP brand which is a responsible company.
  • Pay attention to the water depth, since the presence of an appendage with several tens of centimetres below a beach vehicle is a new data point for a good number of practitioners, even those familiar with watersports. Breakage associated with pressure against or striking the bottom is not covered by the warranty.
  • Maintain and check your equipment regularly, and make no technical modification to it other than products and solutions sold by GONG-GALAXY. Never sharpen the trailing edges, as they would become cutting both for you and for the leash, thereby no longer holding onto the board!

It is highly recommended that you begin foil practice in an appropriate pedagogical setting, by means of an accredited club or school, that you read all of her articles on the GONG forum. This is to allow you to acquire an appropriate level of self-sufficiency and a real knowledge of the stakes in the practice of foil.
