Surf with style and flow on a pure mid-length.

Presentation

A shape rooted in surf culture with yet contemporary lines that form an outline that’s both elegant and sleek. The Indra is a pure mid-length.

If today so many surfers have a mid-length under their feet it is not due to a simple fashion phenomenon. It takes one session only to understand how effective it can be. Enormous versatility, a shape more generous than a shortboard, but far from the dimensions of a longboard. A progressive rocker for more maneuverability, to turn every decision or trajectory in an instinctive flow of action. You can draw high lines, surf down the line, but you can cut your carves short on demand. You are not locked into a surfing style, your imagination is in command.

Style and flow are certainly what characterizes the Indra surfboard the most. Surfing with style is the pinnacle of the sport. Perfecting flow without any downtime. And for that the Indra offers a slender outline, coupled with a well-balanced round tail which retains surface area. The result is simple: this board goes fast, very fast! Besides, the ease and speed of paddling translates into an early wave entry which means you have time to get into the rhythm of the wave. The key to surf with flow.

From a purely aesthetic point of view, the Indra’s outline is a pure marvel. The result of these elegant and sleek lines gives a smooth, pleasant and terribly effective ride. A pure All-arounder with a character both sober and spicy that will follow you everywhere.

Ideal waves

  • Size: from almost nothing to head high and much more.
  • Power: all types of waves, the only limit are hollow waves with thick lips.
  • Aspect: it can handle it all but prefers smooth waves, it expresses all its potential on long waves with a bit of a shoulder, but its field of action remains vast.

Buying guide

For whom?

The Indra is suitable for almost all surfers of all levels. A beginner surfer with a light build can use it by oversizing. An intermediate surfer in the midst of progression seeking a unique board. An experienced surfer who doesn’t want to constantly battle at the peak to catch waves. It is also impressive in performance under the feet of a skilled surfer seeking glide and comfort.

For a shortboarder looking for an easy board to maximize the number of waves caught per session while maintaining an excellent level of performance. To avoid the need for pumping or relaunching to accelerate and pass sections when conditions are not perfect on a small board.

For a longboarder looking for a shorter and more dynamic board, but without necessarily transitioning to a shortboard.

For what purpose?

The Indra is a wave magnet and super easy to surf, offering the glide and paddle ease of a longboard in larger sizes but without the bulk of a big board. It’s the “I don’t have time to surf every day” board, but it allows you to make the most of sessions even if they are spaced out. Because it forgives peak placement errors while being ultra-tolerant underfoot. To have an all-around board and a “zero headache” experience where everything becomes easier: paddling, catching waves, speed, turns… One quickly realizes that a larger board gives more time. You see the wave rolling, the moves coming, as if you had more time than with a shortboard, and less of the sensation of racing against the wave.

In addition to being very aesthetic, they fit easily in the vast majority of cars. Its versatility makes it an excellent board for trips.

What size board?

For choosing the size of a mid-length board, it is advised to choose a board 10” larger than your size for intermediate to experienced surfers. For a beginner to intermediate surfer, it is advised to add 12” and more.

A proficient beginner will choose an Indra of 7′ and above depending on their build; the length will greatly help maximize the number of waves caught and boost progression. Length will also be an asset in small conditions.

The table below can give you some guidelines, to adjust according to your desires and level.

What are the ideal waves?

  • Size: from almost nothing to head high or more.
  • Power: all types of waves, the only limit being waves that really pitch.
  • Aspect: it works everywhere but prefers smooth waves, it expresses its full potential on long waves with shoulders, but its range is vast.

What technology?

We offer different technologies on certain shapes to meet the program, conditions, and sometimes individual habits.

In the case of a PU board, there will be a different behavior from an EPS board of the same shape and weight. It’s the weight distribution in the board that generates a big difference in feeling. For two blanks with the same shape, one in PU and the other in EPS, the EPS blank will be lighter, as EPS foam is less dense.

In the case of a PU board, it’s the blank that provides solidity and concentrates weight in its core. The board thus has a very “central” inertia. This makes for a very smooth board, which forgives errors but is less dynamic. The PU blank will be heavier than the EPS blank.

In the case of an Epoxy board, the blank is very light, and solidity comes from the skins. So the inertia is “peripheral,” meaning the weight of the board is on the outside, making it more mobile, agile, and dynamic.

The best comparison to explain these differences would be to say that the inertia of PU naturally gives a single fin feeling (very centered, smooth and soft pressure), while EPS gives a trifin or even quad feeling (very external pressures, immediate rail to rail, maximum nervousness).

EPS is generally preferred for boards that need dynamism, usually in small to medium conditions, schematically in waves where speed generation is required. EPS is therefore preferred on shapes where reactivity is sought, as it’s easier to turn quickly, perfect for waves that require rapid transitions. For very good surfers, this further enhances the dynamism of their surfing. For progressing surfers, EPS adds this little boost of dynamism as the board can gain speed much more easily, an important point considering that in surfing, speed is the key to everything. PU is favored for high-performance shortboards, for boards where controlling speed is the main objective.

Feelings of each: Surfers accustomed to PU will generally say that “EPS bounces and feels stiff.” While surfers used to EPS will say that “PU feels soft, lacks response, and struggles to accelerate.” These feelings often stem from habits, sometimes generalities, and often prejudices. Don’t hesitate to deviate from conventional wisdom to make your choice.

What fin setup?

One of the advantages of the 2+1 setup is that you can experiment with several setups:

  • The 2+1 setup brings the most versatility to the board. It offers excellent grip when engaging a turn on the rail. It will be faster than a single setup because the side fins boost acceleration by pulling the rail inward into the carve. The center fin is less massive than in a single setup, making it more playful. And it is a key factor in the distribution of surfaces among the three fins. The more surface you put in the center, the more stable and progressive the 2+1 setup will be. The more surface you put in the side fins (and therefore less in the center), the more playful and faster the 2+1 setup will be. A large center fin acts somewhat like an autopilot that smooths out pressures.
  • The single setup is often preferred on noseriders, boards where maximum glide before “planing” is sought. A sufficiently deep fin also stabilizes the tail of the board at the top of the wave without slipping, allowing maximum time to stay on the nose. We also see single setups on mid-length boards designed to slide down the line and engage in long turns. In this case, you will choose a single fin with a lot of rake to avoid hindering carves.
  • On mid-length boards like the Indra, you can even consider switching to a twin setup with two large side fins. This setup is less stable but offers a lot of natural glide and a lot of rebound when you put the board on the rail to catch a section. It’s theoretically the fastest setup because it has less drag than the 2+1 setup. To gain control, you can add a trailer in the center.
  • The trifin setup, meaning three fins of the same depth and generally the same outline, offers the maximum maneuverability. It’s the ideal setup for ripping carves and maximizing radical surfing. In this case, move the center fin back to avoid having an uncontrollable board.

What shape to choose?

Indra or Carter?

At equivalent size, the Carter is wider in the center with a more generous mid-width, if some may be bothered by this width, it will not be the case with the Indra, with more conventional center dimensions. The tail of the Carter is more pinched, the lines of this rounded pin tail are more stretched, which has the effect of lengthening and stabilizing carves.

That of the Indra has more surface area, and the narrower outline presents rounder lines. This is what makes the latter more effective and faster in soft waves and small conditions. The Indra will accelerate more quickly and provide more rebound in sluggish waves.

Indra or Acidolly?

The Acidolly is closer to a longboard, as its outline follows the lines of a longboard, while being simply more compact. At equal size, the Indra will paddle faster, so it will drop earlier and hold better on steep slopes with its nose that grips less.

If you’re a beginner with still hesitant take-offs, the Acidolly will be more reassuring and stable.

Another major difference is the restriction of possible maneuvers panel in the Indra. Indeed, even if some cheater hang fives can be very effective on the Indra, it’s far from being able to perform the entire array of nose moves of a longboard. So if these moves don’t appeal to you much, the Indra is probably the best choice.

The Carter in larger sizes is close to a longboard, but it will paddle much faster. You’ll drop earlier, that’s obvious. It will also hold better in steep slopes with its nose that grips less and reassures. It’s evident in a tube where we have a real aptitude in Carter whereas it’s rather counterintuitive or walking on eggs on a longboard. Another major difference is the restriction of possible maneuvers panel in Carter. Indeed, even if some cheater hang fives can be very effective on the Indra, it’s far from being able to perform the entire array of nose moves of a longboard. So if these moves don’t appeal to you much, the Indra is probably the best choice.

How to properly glue your pads?

The question of the pad often comes down to an aesthetic choice for the look of your board. But what seems like luxury to non-pros is actually a huge help.
If surfing is the art of placement then you need to put your feet properly on the board. And what better than a touch marker to know, ok, I’m at the sweet spot for this turn.?

Sticking good pads is therefore essential. They will signal to your feet whether they are in the perfect position or not.
You still have to stick them properly, and some get very creative…
