EPS Technology

  • 3D shape on modeling software.
  • Preshape by numerical control for total reliability.
  • Shape control by traditional templates, finishing off the last mm 100% by hand.
  • Epoxy resin and EPS foam blank: solid and lightweight.
  • Epoxy / fiberglass lamination on polystyrene foam blank 28kg / m³ with 3 stringers (central wood stringer and 2 lateral 3mm).
  • Deck detail: 2 layers of 6oz fiberglass
  • Hull detail: 1 layer of 6oz fiberglass, with 5 6oz fiberglass reinforcement patches and 1 6oz carbon patch around the
  • US rails to avoid breakage in front of the foil attachment during stalls.
  • PVC reinforcement 70kg / m3 with a thickness of 3.5 cm integrating the 2 US rails.
  • Resin tinted hot coat : nobility of the process, weight saving and solidity of the finish.
  • Hand-made matt “custom finish” for weight saving and a better glide.
  • This technology is easily repairable as new in the event of dings or accidents, and has an excellent lightness / nervousness ratio highlighting all the technical qualities of the shape.
  • It is THE modern technology currently popular with the most technical foilers looking for lightness and responsiveness.
  • These boards are 100% shaped and glassed in China in the most experienced factory in the manufacture of surfboards.

These boards are built with our very reinforced EPS GONG technology to meet the specific constraints of the foil: 3 stringers, more layers and foil box reinforcements +++

The EPS combines lightness and liveliness to allow the shape to express itself 100%. This modern technology is popular with the most technical foilers looking for strapless responsiveness.

The shape is cut with a numerical control (CNC) from a high-end and lightweight EPS foam blank. This guarantees great precision in the shape since the robot will shape the board until leaving only one millimeter of manual finishing.

Two fiberglass layers of an important basis weight are epoxy coated on the deck and one on the hull. There are therefore three layers of 6oz on the rails with the overlap. It’s super strong and very stiff.

The foam blank’s surface is first smeared with a mix of glass micro spheres and epoxy resin to prepare the adhesion of the layers and limit the absorption of resin during lamination. The gluing is perfect for maximum durability and the foam blank is smoother and white to the eye under the stratum; looks wonderful.

The boxes are integrated in a large reinforcement of high density PVC foam. The foam blank is hollowed out to glue the reinforcement with epoxy resin and fiberglass. The whole is hydrophobic. This laying base rests on the central stringer which fits to the shape of the reinforcement. The two outer stringers laterally consolidate the reinforcement block on which it leans. The whole is incredibly solid (light years away from low-end tech with the boxes glued directly in the foam blank).

The area of the foil box, subjected to very significant forces, is reinforced with 5 layers of fiberglass and a layer of carbon fiber in addition to the hull layers to guarantee flawless strength. This stepped reinforcement diffuses flexion in high stress to prevent breakage. A superb piece of work.

Then come the finishing coats with a first hot coat in epoxy resin, super strong to shocks, which seals the board. Then a polyester hot coat which will equalize the micro variations of the surface (less than a millimeter) for a perfect finish.

And finally the decoration which is as light as possible, therefore with transparency effects which reveal the construction for the greatest pleasure of the eyes. We don’t like painting because it puts on a lot of weight and it’s fragile. We prefer noble materials directly accessible under your eyes and sublimated by some stylish decorative elements.

At GONG our boards are the highest quality. Our low prices may come as a surprise, but they can only be explained by our direct sales model which eliminates margins.

Finally if by bad luck you damage your board, it will be easily repairable because it was well built. We stock components for your preferred repairer and publish dozens of tutorials to help you maintain your equipment throughout its life.
